Does the fear of injustice prevent polygyny, and what is the ruling on marriage if injustice occurs—is it permissible or forbidden?

Mere fear of not being just between wives prevents polygyny, and it is more befitting for one who ascertains this. The origin of the obligation of justice is in Allah's saying: "But if you fear that you will not be just, then [marry only] one" (4:3), meaning in division and expenditure, and this is obligatory.

The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, warned against injustice, saying: "Whoever has two wives and inclines to one over the other will come on the Day of Resurrection with one of his sides dragging, fallen, or leaning."

The forbidden inclination refers to inclination in matters that the husband controls, such as division in overnight stays, food, and clothing. As for love and affection, the husband does not control these.
