What is the ruling on wearing the niqab and burqa, and what are the fatwas of the people of knowledge regarding that?
If the niqab covers the entire face except for one or two openings for the eyes, then it is the legitimate hijab, and there is no objection to it. As for the niqab that reveals large parts of the eye sockets and cheeks, it is a forbidden form of display (tabarruj), and it may be more unlawful than completely uncovering the face for some women, because it might increase temptation (fitna). This is what many scholars have ruled.
