Is it permissible to force one's wife to wear the niqab, knowing that she verbally agreed to it before marriage but now does not wish to wear it? What is the ruling of Sharia on divorcing her if she does not comply with wearing it? And does this condition remain valid for the husband if the wife is pregnant?

Concealing the face and hands is obligatory, according to the more preponderant opinion. A wife cannot abandon the niqab if her husband commands her to wear it. If, in addition to that, he stipulated it upon her during the marriage contract, its obligation upon her is affirmed from three perspectives: it is a command from Allah, a command from the husband, and a condition in the contract. This condition must be fulfilled, and the husband is permitted to compel her to wear it. However, if her abandonment of the niqab is due to her following some scholars who say it is not obligatory, and not driven by whims or desires, then she must be given respite. If she insists on refusing after the respite period ends, she should be treated as a rebellious wife (nashiz), and the husband is permitted to divorce her or seek a financial redemption from her. Her pregnancy does not affect this ruling.
