Is it permissible to exceed forty days without shaving the pubic hair if this coincides with the first ten days of Dhu al-Hijjah and the desire to offer a sacrifice, knowing that I did not remember to shave it before the beginning of these ten days?

The answer is summarized in two rulings: The first is the command to shave the pubic hair and not leave it for more than forty days. Leaving it for longer than that is severely disliked (makrooh karaha shadida) according to the majority of scholars, and prohibitively disliked (makrooh tahreeman) according to the Hanafis. The second is the prohibition for the one offering a sacrifice (Al-Mudhahhi) from taking any of his hair during the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah until he has offered his sacrifice. Scholars have differed regarding its ruling, between permissibility, dislike, and prohibition. Based on this, if someone forgot to shave their pubic hair and delayed it until after the ten days, thus exceeding the forty-day period, they should shave it; because the majority of scholars do not prohibit shaving the hair of the one offering a sacrifice, and the dislike is removed by a legitimate need in this situation.
