What are the scholarly interpretations of the Hadith: "I asked my Lord for permission to seek forgiveness for her, but He did not permit me," apart from the issue of whether she is in Hellfire or not? And does the statement of a scholar, "There is no indication in the Hadith that she is in Hellfire," have any basis or precedent?

The hadith in which the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, visited his mother's grave and wept, is clear evidence that she died upon polytheism (shirk) and is among the people of Hellfire, because he said: "I asked my Lord for permission to seek forgiveness for her, but He did not grant me permission." Forgiveness was withheld from her because Allah does not forgive polytheists. Some scholars have inclined towards their salvation through interpretations of theith, such as their saying that the call (of Islam) did not reach them, or that he (the Prophet) revived them and they believed in him. However, the correct view is the first one, which is supported by the authentic hadith and the majority of scholars.
