Will a servant attain the station he desires in Paradise, and will his deeds be appreciated if his intention is pure and his request sincere?

A Muslim must combine love, fear, and hope in his worship of Allah Almighty. He should worship Him out of love for Him, hope for His reward, and fear of His punishment. The motive for worship should not be solely the hope of Paradise and salvation from Hellfire, because Allah is deserving of worship for His own essence and attributes. This is the meaning behind the saying of some Sufis, "We did not worship Him out of fear of His Fire nor out of covetousness for His Paradise," meaning that they worship Allah because He is worthy of worship, not merely to attain reward or salvation from punishment. Nevertheless, they ask Allah for Paradise and seek refuge with Him from Hellfire, because that is part of the Sunnah. It is the right of the servant to act in submission to Allah and to rely on His grace and generosity, for Allah gives by His grace, not in exchange for deeds.
