What is the interpretation of the Hadith Qudsi: "My wrath against anyone is not like My wrath against a servant who committed a sin and then deemed it great in comparison to My pardon"?

The aforementioned sentence is part of a long tradition narrated by Abu Nu'aym al-Isfahani in Hilyat al-Awliya' from Wahb ibn Munabbih, and its meaning is to warn against despairing of Allah Almighty's mercy. This meaning is stated in the Holy Qur'an. Allah Almighty says: "Say, 'O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of Allah . Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful.'" (Az-Zumar: 53), and He Almighty says: "He said, 'And who despairs of the mercy of his Lord except those astray?'" (Al-Hijr: 56), and He Almighty says: "Indeed, no one despairs of relief from Allah except the disbelieving people." (Yusuf: 87). This tradition is not attributed to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, nor to a Companion. Wahb ibn Munabbih is known for his narrations from the Isra'iliyyat (Judeo-Christian traditions) and the scriptures of the People of the Book.
