Is it permissible in Islamic law to seek a divorce if the husband is suspicious, critical, prevents his wife from visiting neighbors and relatives, spies on her phone, is excessively jealous of normal behaviors, forbids her from adorning herself, reduces her visits to her family, restricts her clothing, and threatens to prevent her from working, which has negatively affected her psyche and social life, even though the marital relationship is generally good apart from these personal differences?

The default is that it is not permissible for a woman to seek divorce unless there is a legitimate reason, and among these reasons is clear harm inflicted by her husband. However, divorce is not always a solution, and a woman may regret it, and it has a negative impact on children. Therefore, one should be deliberate, pray often, and strive to improve the situation, for Allah, the Almighty, says: "And when My servants ask you concerning Me, then [answer them], I am indeed near. I respond to the invocation of the supplicant when he calls upon Me. So let them respond to Me [by obedience] and believe in Me that they may be rightly guided." Also, advice should be given to the husband, or the help of some virtuous people should be sought to explain that excessive jealousy is a disease that harms its possessor and his family. If the situation does not improve, do not rush to seek divorce until you consult trustworthy and sincere advisors.
