Which verses are referred to as the "sword verses," along with their respective surahs and verse numbers? And what is the reason for the indefinite and definite articles in verse 126 of Surah Al-Baqarah and verse 35 of Surah Ibrahim?

"The Verse of the Sword" is frequently mentioned in books of Tafsir (exegesis) and Quranic sciences, and it is Allah's saying: "Then, when the sacred months have passed, kill the polytheists wherever you find them..." (At-Tawbah: 5). This verse abrogated the preceding verses that enjoined turning away and patience.

As for the indefiniteness of "baladan" (a city) in Abraham's supplication in Surat Al-Baqarah: "My Lord, make this a secure city," it was perhaps because the place was empty, with no one and no water when he left Hagar and Ishmael. So he asked Allah to make it an inhabited and secure place. However, in Surat Ibrahim, his supplication was after the place had become a city and people had settled there: "My Lord, make this city secure." The city prayed for in both verses is Mecca Al-Mukarramah.
