If a father curses the religion, abandons prayer, smokes, and mistreats his wife: Cursing the religion is a grave danger that expels him from Islam. The wife should report his case to the Shariah judge, and if he insists on his disbelief, she becomes irrevocably separated from him (ba'inat). As for abandoning prayer, some jurists consider it disbelief. Smoking is forbidden. He should be advised with gentleness and wisdom. The son must be dutiful and kind to him. If the marital bond is severed between the spouses due to the husband's apostasy, he no longer has authority over her, and the wife is entitled to full maintenance and dowry.
