Is it permissible to feed one's father or mother instead of a needy person as expiation for breaking the fast in Ramadan, or must money be given, and what is the monetary value of the expiation for one day?

Expiations (kaffarat), of all types, are not to be given to relatives whose maintenance is obligatory upon the person liable for the expiation, such as parents and children. This is because giving it to them would relieve him of some of his obligations, making him the beneficiary. The more preponderant opinion is that expiations are to be given to anyone whose maintenance is not obligatory upon him. Furthermore, according to the majority of scholars, it is not permissible to give monetary value instead of providing food.
