Is it permissible for a wine-drinker to pray while conscious of what he is saying, so as not to miss the obligatory prayer, acting upon the words of Allah Almighty: "O you who have believed, do not approach prayer while you are in a state of drunkenness until you know what you are saying"?

Drinking alcohol is a major sin, and its drinker will be given to drink from "tinat al-khabal" (the sweat or fluid discharge of the people of Hellfire). The prayer of a person who has drunk alcohol is valid if they have performed ablution and know what they are saying, based on the Almighty's saying: "O you who have believed, do not approach prayer while you are intoxicated until you know what you are saying." However, they will not be rewarded for it, for "whoever drinks alcohol, their prayer will not be accepted for forty mornings."
