Is the prayer of a wine drinker permissible?

It is not permissible to sit with a wine-drinker except for the purpose of enjoining what is right and forbidding what is wrong. One should not continue to associate with him as long as he persists in wrongdoing. A wine-drinker is insistent on committing a major sin, and his prayers are invalid if he prays while intoxicated, according to the Almighty’s saying: "O you who have believed, do not approach prayer while you are intoxicated until you know what you are saying." However, if he prays while sober, his prayer is valid and fulfills the obligation if it meets the conditions and pillars, but he will not be rewarded for it due to his involvement in a major sin. If he neglects any of the conditions or pillars of prayer, his prayer is invalid and he must repeat it.
