Why did Moses (peace be upon him) say, "I only have control over myself and my brother," even though there were Muslims with him?

Moses' (peace be upon him) statement: "My Lord, I have no control except over myself and my brother, so separate us from the disobedient people" was uttered when his people disobeyed him and refused to partake in jihad, and when they said: "Go, you and your Lord, and fight; indeed, we are sitting right here." This does not contradict their Islam, for their disobedience was their rebellion and defiance. The meaning is: I am unable to compel anyone to obey You and follow Your commands and prohibitions except myself and my brother Aaron. This was a complaint to Allah, that He might have mercy on them and separate them from those people who had deviated from His obedience.
