What is the ruling on someone who supplicates, "O Allah, distance me from so-and-so's group and never unite me with them, and I ask You to create a great separation between me and them, and never unite me with them in one place," if this group is among the people of Paradise?

A Muslim is not permitted to make such supplications, for they contain aggression in supplication, severance of ties of kinship, sin, mutual hatred, and turning away from one another. Allah the Almighty said: [Call upon your Lord humbly and in secret. He does not like aggressors.] The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The supplication of any one of you will be answered as long as he does not pray for something sinful or for the severance of the ties of kinship." The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, also said: "Do not hate one another, do not envy one another, do not turn away from one another… And be, O servants of Allah, brothers. It is not lawful for a Muslim to forsake his brother for more than three days."
