There is no basis for methods of searching for water (such as an olive branch, dowsing rods, or an egg), and relying on them is ignorance and superstition. Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah said: “They have asserted causes in His creation, command, and prohibition for which Allah has sent down no authority.” The Permanent Committee for Fatwa differentiated between scientific research based on modern equipment and experiments, and speculation and charlatanism that does not rely on universal causes and scientific experiments.
