How can a husband have all these rights over his wife, when he bears far fewer burdens than she does, especially as she spends on the house, cares for the children's affairs, and works as if she were both a man and a woman at the same time?

All of the husband's financial obligations towards his wife are established, and the wife's assistance to him is not an obligation upon her. The husband's right is not forfeited by her spending or working. Indeed, Allah Almighty has favored men over women in many matters, among them: permitting polygyny for men, granting him the power of divorce and reconciliation, making the husband's opinion a reference in household affairs, as well as in jihad and certain forms of authority and preference in justice, guardianship of marriage, preference in inheritance, and the obligation to financially support the wife.
