How do we draw closer to Allah? And what should we do so that Allah loves us?

Drawing near to Allah is achieved through worshipping Him, obeying Him, performing His obligatory duties, and abstaining from His prohibitions. This is followed by performing supererogatory acts and recommended deeds, and avoiding reprehensible ones. This is supported by the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying, as narrated by Al-Bukhari: "Indeed, Allah said: 'Whoever shows enmity to a beloved servant of Mine, I shall declare war upon him. My servant does not draw near to Me with anything more beloved to Me than what I have enjoined upon him. My servant continues to draw near to Me with supererogatory deeds until I love him. When I love him, I am his hearing with which he hears, his sight with which he sees, his hand with which he strikes, and his foot with which he walks. If he asks Me, I shall surely give him, and if he seeks refuge in Me, I shall surely grant him refuge.'"
