Is it permissible to single out Friday for fasting among the six days of Shawwal?

The majority of scholars dislike singling out Friday for fasting, unless it is preceded or followed by a day of fasting, or coincides with a customary fast, or falls on a day whose fasting is recommended, such as Arafah, or if it is a vowed fast. The wisdom behind this prohibition is that Friday is a day of worship and supplication, and fasting might weaken a Muslim from performing these acts of worship with vigor. The dislike is removed by fasting along with another day to compensate for any potential enfeeblement that might occur.
