It is disliked to single out Friday for fasting, but if a person fasts it with the intention of the six days of Shawwal, his fast is valid and counts as one of them. The dislikedness is lifted if he fasts it intending to fast the six days after it, and then he decides not to fast. Al-Shirwani holds that the dislikedness remains even if he intended to fast Saturday after Friday and then did not fast it. However, Al-Nawawi, in Al-Majmu', holds that the intention to connect it with the day after it removes the dislikedness of singling it out, even if he later decides not to fast the day after it, and this is the more preponderant opinion. If you leave fasting Saturday due to an excuse, it is hoped that the dislikedness is removed.
