The suitor is not permitted to marry his paternal cousin to himself if there is a closer guardian than her, such as her paternal uncles. The suitor can communicate with her family, try to convince them, and seek mediation from righteous people. He should also fear Allah, be patient, keep himself chaste through fasting and lowering his gaze, occupy his time with beneficial activities, and associate with good people.
