How is the Salat al-Awwabin performed, and what is the evidence for its existence?

Salat al-Awwabin is the Duha prayer, and its number of cycles (rak'ahs) is two, four, six, or eight. It is performed after the sun has risen until close to noon, and its best time is when the heat intensifies. The proof for this is what Muslim narrated from Zayd ibn Arqam that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The prayer of the Awwabin is when the young camels feel the burning heat of the sand." "When the young camels feel the burning heat of the sand" means that the hooves of the young camels get burned from the intense heat of the sand, and this is the best time for the Duha prayer.
