Is it permissible for the fiancé's father to see his son's fiancée?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

The suitor's father is not permitted to look at his son's fiancée because she is a stranger to him. He must lower his gaze from her and must not be alone with her or shake her hand. However, if the legitimate Islamic marriage contract is concluded between the son and his fiancée, she becomes his wife, and the son's father is permitted to look at her because she has become a mahram to him, as Allah Almighty says: "and the wives of your sons who are from your own loins."
