The answer

The time for al-Layl (night vigil prayer) begins after the Isha prayer. Many of the Salaf (early generations of Muslims) held the view that praying between Maghrib and Isha is part of Qiyam al-Layl. A Muslim can pray what is easy for him during the night before going to work, and it is not a condition that this must be in the last part of the night. Although Qiyam in the last part of the night is better, Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) mentioned that the Prophet (peace be upon him) used to pray Witr in the early, middle, and late parts of the night. If a Muslim misses his regular wird (portion of worship) from the night, he should increase his voluntary prayers during the day and maintain the rawatib (regular voluntary prayers) and the Duha prayer. This is because when the Prophet (peace be upon him) missed a prayer from the night, he would pray twelve rak'ahs during the day.
