What is the ruling on applying perfume to the body after entering into a state of Ihram, out of ignorance?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

If someone commits one of the prohibitions of ihram out of forgetfulness or ignorance, such as applying perfume, then nothing is required of them. However, they must immediately remove whatever they are wearing that caused the violation. If they delay in removing it despite being able to, then the fidyah (expiation) becomes obligatory upon them. This is supported by the hadith of Ya’la ibn Umayyah, where the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, did not order the man who wore a jubbah and applied perfume while in ihram out of ignorance to offer the fidyah.
