What is the ruling on receiving a salary or wages for Islamic or Da‘wah designs?

There is no harm in taking a fee for promotional designs, even according to those who prohibit taking a fee for acts of worship, because they restrict this to acts whose doer is specifically among the people of devotion. This is what Ibn Qudamah stated in Al-Mughni, saying: "As for building mosques, its doer is not specifically among the people of devotion, and it can be an act of devotion or not. If it is done for a fee, it is not an act of devotion or worship." Similar statements are found in Kashshaf al-Qina' and Bada'i' al-Sana'i'. Along with taking a fee, it is recommended to intend to benefit people and seek reward. Ibn Taymiyyah was asked about someone who transcribes Hadith and the Quran for himself or for sale, whether he would be rewarded. He replied: "A person is rewarded for writing it, whether he writes it for himself or writes it to sell it..."
