What is the concept of justice and sufficiency in polygyny, and is there a minimum time a husband must spend with his family? The principle of bringing about benefits and warding off harms is manifest in all of His rulings, including polygyny, which achieves greater benefits for society despite any hardships it may cause the first wife. The misuse of polygyny by some men should not be attributed to the legal ruling itself.

As for the sister's question, there is no specific time limit that a husband must spend with his family. However, what is obligatory is justice in spending nights among wives, and the husband should attend to his family and children.

It is not permissible to prevent a husband from marrying a second wife, even if the first wife is fulfilling her duties, for the right to declare something lawful or unlawful belongs to Allah alone. Jealousy is not held against a wife, but she is held accountable for the forbidden actions that result from it, such as insubordination (nushooz) or preventing her husband from marrying.

There are no specific conditions a husband must fulfill before marrying another, other than the ability to fulfill the rights of both wives, although appeasing the first wife is desirable.

As for the ruling on polygyny, it is permissible in principle. However, the five legal rulings (obligatory, forbidden, disliked, recommended) may apply to it depending on each specific case.
