What is the ruling on zombie games, and are they major disbelief, given that they portray the dead who have returned to life in a terrifying form?

It is forbidden to play games that involve the return of the dead to life through magic and sorcery, because this contradicts the explicit texts of the Quran and Sunnah. Allah Almighty says: "And there is a ban on a town which We have destroyed: that they shall not return (to life again on earth)" (Al-Anbiya: 95). And it is authentically reported in the Hadith that Allah said to Jabir ibn Abdullah's father: "It has already been decreed by Me that they shall not return to it (the worldly life)."

These games glorify magic and sorcery, which is contrary to the religion of Islam. Playing them is forbidden, and it does not constitute major disbelief unless the player believes that someone other than Allah is capable of bringing the dead back to life, or disbelieves the revealed texts which state that the dead will not return to this world after their death. Whoever believes that is a disbeliever.
