What is the ruling on one who swore by divorce three times with the intention of it taking effect if the sworn-upon event occurred, then the sworn-upon event occurred while he was angry, and does it apply to all three of his wives or to one of them?

If someone swears by divorce, intending it, and then breaks the oath, the divorce is binding. This is by scholarly consensus, and anger, however impactful, does not negate the validity of the divorce. If the divorce becomes binding, whether revocable or irrevocable, and he has more than one wife, it applies to all of them unless there was an intention to specify or a reason necessitating specification. The divorce has taken effect for the three wives mentioned. According to the majority of scholars, such a divorce counts as three divorces. However, according to Sheikh Al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah and his student Ibn Al-Qayyim, it counts as a single divorce. The relied-upon opinion is that of the majority.
