What is the ruling on a husband cursing his son, expelling him from the house, and calling him by abusive names, under the guise of upbringing, and is this method correct for dealing with a son's shortcomings in supererogatory prayers despite his maintaining the obligatory ones?

The father should be a companion in his child's education and guidance, and he should avoid cursing and reviling. He should draw inspiration from the Prophet Muhammad's (peace be upon him) guidance of gentleness and leniency in dealing with mistakes, especially in this era where distractions for children and sources of deviation have become numerous.

The father must not be an aid to Satan against his child. Punishment and severity should only be used sparingly and in the narrowest of circumstances, with an emphasis on encouragement and benevolence. If the son fulfills his obligatory duties, the father should praise his Lord and not be too strict with him beyond that; rather, he should overlook and advise gently.

The mother has a double responsibility to contain her son and rectify what the father has damaged through his mistakes, while advising the father and pointing out his errors.

Among the methods of raising children to pray are: the good example set by the parents, reminding them of the importance of prayer, accompanying those who are diligent in prayer, supplicating for their guidance, and not despairing from repeatedly advising and disciplining them.
