What should a wife do if her husband wants her to go with him to the Land of the Two Holy Mosques, while her mother is ill and refuses this, wanting her to stay with her?
A wife must obey her husband and move with him wherever he moves, unless she stipulated, at the time of the marriage contract, that she would not be taken out of her country. She is not entitled to refuse to travel with him due to her mother's illness, nor is she obligated to obey her mother in this matter. Rather, it is forbidden for her to obey her mother in a way that entails disobedience to her husband. Obedience to the husband takes precedence over obedience to parents. It is not permissible for the wife to leave her husband's house except with his permission. If the sick mother needs someone to serve her and does not have money, the daughter should hire a servant for her.
