Is praying at night better than the regular Sunnah prayers, based on the prophetic hadith: "The best prayer after the obligatory prayers is prayer in the depths of the night, and the best fasting after the month of Ramadan is fasting in Allah's month of Muharram"?

The jurists differed regarding the preference between the regular (ratibah) supererogatory prayers and the night vigil (qiyam al-layl) into two opinions: The first opinion holds that the regular supererogatory prayers are superior, and this is the view of most scholars. They interpreted the hadith, "The best prayer after the obligatory prayer is prayer in the middle of the night," as referring to absolute supererogatory prayers after the obligatory ones and their associated regular supererogatory prayers. The second opinion holds that the night vigil (qiyam al-layl) is superior, based on the apparent meaning of the hadith.
