Is memorizing the Qur’an obligatory, or is it better to read it? And is it necessary to act upon the advice found in the Sunnah if one becomes aware of it, such as saying, "O Lord, forgive me, have mercy on me, guide me, provide for me, grant me well-being, and mend my affairs" when rising from prostration, instead of "Glory be to my Lord, the Almighty"?

Memorizing the Noble Qur’an is a great good and a high status in Paradise. However, it is not obligatory to memorize anything from it except Al-Fatihah for the prayer to be valid, due to the saying of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "There is no prayer for one who does not recite the Mother of the Book." As for the adhkar (remembrances) and du’as (supplications) mentioned in the prayer, the Sunnah is to maintain them in their proper places, such as saying: "Subhan Rabbi Al-Azim (Glory be to my Lord, the Most Great)" in bowing, and supplicating between the two prostrations with "Allahumma ighfir li warhamni wa ‘afini wahdini warzuqni (O Allah, forgive me, have mercy on me, grant me well-being, guide me, and provide for me)."
