Will a homosexual be held accountable for his inclinations without acting upon them, and will his repentance be accepted? And must one who was unaware of the need for ritual bathing (ghusl) after major ritual impurity (janabah) make up the missed prayers after repenting and becoming aware, given the difficulty of counting them and their large number?

It is from Allah Almighty's mercy upon His servants that He does not hold them accountable for what passes through their minds as long as they do not act upon it or speak of it; according to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him): "Indeed, Allah has pardoned my nation for what they whisper to themselves, as long as they do not act upon it or speak of it." The deviant person who has not acted will not be held accountable for what is in his heart, but rather he will be rewarded if he strives against himself and restrains it from what Allah Almighty has forbidden, as stated in Ibn Al-Qayyim's book "Al-Fawa'id" concerning 'Umar ibn Al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) that the man whose soul struggles with desires but leaves them for the sake of Allah is among those whose hearts Allah has tested for piety, and for them is forgiveness and a great reward. Repentance is valid for every sin, even major shirk. Allah Almighty says: "Say, 'O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful.'" As for one who does not know ghusl (ritual bath) for janabah (major impurity): If he does not perform it at all, he must repent and repeat the prayers he performed without purification, according to most scholars. But if he does not know the sunnah method but generalizes water over his body, he has fulfilled the obligatory amount and does not need to repeat anything, and he must learn what corrects his worship.
