What is your religious counsel to a person who has committed acts ranging from homosexual foreplay and sodomy, and masturbating with his sister, and sexually harassing others, and slandering, and bearing false witness, and who wishes to repent and purify himself and restore rights to their owners? And must he establish the hudud, or should he conceal himself?

Allah Almighty accepts the repentance of His servant and rejoices in it, transforming their evil deeds into good deeds. The conditions for repentance are: abstaining from the sin, regretting having committed it, and resolving not to return to it. If the sin relates to the rights of another human being, then one must absolve oneself of that responsibility, either by returning the right or seeking forgiveness, unless doing so would lead to greater harm, in which case prayer alone suffices.

In the case of forbidden acts such as sodomy and masturbation, repentance consists of abstaining, regretting, and resolving not to return, and one must conceal their past sins. As for false accusation (qadhf), repentance involves the accuser recanting their accusation in front of those before whom they made it. Regarding backbiting (gheebah), some scholars have favored the validity of repentance without informing the victims, but rather by speaking well of them and supplicating for them.
