What does it mean that the Quran is the word of God, and one of His attributes?
The Quran is the Word of Allah and His Speech, and it is an uncreated attribute of His. From Him it originated, and to Him it shall return. Speech is an attribute of the Speaker. Their saying "from Him it originated" is a refutation of those who claimed that it was created within some bodies. And "to Him it shall return" means that no verse of it will remain in bosoms, nor any letter in the Mushafs. The Quran is the Word of Allah in itself, irrespective of the movements and voices of people that have reached us, because the Speech itself existed before the reciter was created, so its non-existence does not necessitate His non-existence.
