What is the ruling on prizes offered by commercial banks to their customers, or as an incentive to open an account, in exchange for a chance to win the prize?

It is not permissible to deposit money in commercial (usurious) banks except in cases of extreme necessity, such as fear of the money being destroyed or stolen. Depositing money in them with the possibility of winning a prize is considered prohibited gambling. A Muslim must seek lawful means of earning.
