What is the ruling on taking a road that passes by a wine tavern, knowing that there is an alternative road but it is difficult?
The scholars disliked passing through places where people were punished, based on the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) saying to his companions when they passed through the dwellings of Thamud: "Do not enter upon these people who have been punished, unless you are weeping. If you are not weeping, then do not enter upon them, lest what befell them should befall you." This calls for reflection on their circumstances, taking heed from what befell them, renewing repentance, and praising Allah for the blessing of faith. It does not necessitate abandoning an easy path.
