Should a wife make up the days of Ramadan that she missed due to breastfeeding, for which expiation was paid based on a previous fatwa, and it has now become clear to her that making them up is more preponderant?

Some scholars hold the view that if a pregnant or breastfeeding woman breaks her fast, she should feed the poor (perform fidya) but does not need to make up the fasts (qada'). This is the opinion of Abdullah ibn Abbas and Ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both, and is also the madhhab of Ishaq. Some contemporary scholars, such as Sheikh Al-Albani, may Allah have mercy on him, have favored this view. Others, however, believe that making up the fasts (qada') is obligatory without the need for feeding the poor (it'am), and this is the madhhab of Abu Hanifa. There is no blame upon one who adopts the opinion of Ibn Abbas, as this issue is among the recognized matters of scholarly disagreement. Therefore, the wife is not obliged to make up the days during which she sufficed with feeding the poor, even if she now inclines to the view that making up the fasts is obligatory.
