Is it permissible to pay the value of a single expiation for an oath (kaffarat al-yameen) four times in one lump sum, given that the number of needy people (masakeen) in the area is small? And if it is permissible, what is the required quantity of rice and chicken to be given?

There is no impediment to giving food for four expiations to ten poor persons, with each poor person receiving food for four expiations. This is sufficient, though it is more cautious to distribute it separately. Some scholars do not consider it sufficient to give a single poor person more than the food for one expiation per day; this is the view of Abu Hanifa and Abu Yusuf. However, if one feeds a poor person from two expiations on two different days, this is permissible by consensus. For expiation, one must give half a sa' of food (approximately 1.5 kilograms) or clothing consisting of a shirt, an izar (waist wrapper), and a rida' (upper garment). It is also sufficient to feed a poor person two meals: lunch and dinner.
