Is it obligatory to prioritize the repayment of a stolen amount over marriage if the available money is insufficient for both and there is an opportunity that might be lost?
Theft is a grave crime forbidden by Islam, which has prescribed a severe punishment for it. Allah Almighty says: "And the thief, male and female, cut off their hands as recompense for what they earned, a deterrent from Allah." (Al-Ma'idah: 38). The repentance of a thief is not complete until the stolen item is returned to its owner, due to the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "The hand is responsible for what it took until it returns it." The rights of people are not forgiven by Allah, therefore, one must hasten to fulfill them, as that facilitates matters and removes life's difficulties.
