What supplications or acts help one return to Almighty God after discontinuing prayer, and to what extent is this discontinuation prohibited?
Intentionally abandoning prayer is one of the greatest sins, and the one who is negligent in it may end up abandoning it altogether. One must hasten to sincere repentance and return to Allah, and establish prayer, for whoever turns away from the remembrance of Allah will have a ضنكًا (restricted, difficult) life. Moreover, according to the majority of scholars, one must make up missed prayers, accompany righteous people, and supplicate frequently. As for the presence of dogs, it does not justify abandoning prayer. Rather, one can pray on a pure prayer mat, or leave the work that prevents one from praying. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade keeping dogs except for hunting or livestock.
