The afflictions of worry and sorrow that befall a person are inevitable, and one must strive to remedy them, for they hinder one's progress towards Allah Almighty. Among the greatest aids in overcoming worries is returning to Allah Almighty through obedience, and knowing that any calamity that befalls a person is due to their disobedience. Therefore, the servant should strive in repentance and rectify their relationship with Allah Almighty: "And whatever calamity befalls you, it is because of what your hands have earned, and He pardons much." (Quran 42:30). Also helpful in this regard is seeking refuge in Allah Almighty, striving earnestly in supplication to Him, drawing closer to Him, and asking Him of His immense bounty, and adhering to the supplications for worry and distress narrated from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him.

Know that patience is not unattainable for one who sincerely seeks it, for "whoever seeks to be patient, Allah will make him patient." If a servant earnestly asks Allah for patience and genuinely compels themselves to it, Allah Almighty will grant them success in patience and aid them therein. Among the things that help one be patient is recalling the great reward of the patient ones, and the abundant recompense Allah has prepared for them: "Indeed, the patient will be given their reward without reckoning." (Quran 39:10). Another aid to patience is to remember that despair does not bring back what is lost nor revive the dead, and that one benefits nothing from despair except Allah's wrath upon them. Furthermore, patience is aided by finding comfort in the stories of those afflicted and tested whose calamities are greater than one's own, and realizing that this is the nature of this worldly life. Finally, striving in supplication and seeking Allah Almighty's help are among the greatest means to attract good and repel evil.
