Is it permissible to annul an engagement to a divorced woman based on disturbing dreams seen by the mother, out of fear that the marriage will not succeed or that God is warning them through these dreams?
An engagement is a promise of marriage that should be fulfilled. However, it is permissible to withdraw from it for a valid reason, because marriage is a lifelong contract where harm could persist. Therefore, it is the right of both the suitor and the one being sought to withdraw as a precautionary measure.
Withdrawing from an engagement without a valid excuse is disliked (makrooh), but it is not forbidden ().
If the girl is religious and of good character, try to convince your mother by citing the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "A woman is married for four reasons: for her wealth, for her lineage, for her beauty, and for her religion. So, succeed with the religious woman, may your hands be dusty."
If your mother is convinced, then that is good. Otherwise, leave this woman in obedience to your mother.
One should not break an engagement due to dreams.
Your illness may not be related to the engagement, and we advise you to turn to Allah Almighty and make abundant supplications.
