Is it permissible to pray during the Athan?

The prohibition against voluntary prayers was mentioned for three times: when the sun rises clearly, when the sun reaches its zenith (midday), and when the sun inclines towards setting. The prohibition against voluntary prayers was also mentioned for the time when the obligatory prayer is being established. As for the obligatory prayer, it can be performed at any time if its original time has passed.

There is no prohibition against voluntary prayers at the time of the Adhan, but it is better for a Muslim to recite the Adhan supplications at their designated time. Some jurists from the Maliki and Hanbali schools have explicitly stated the dislike of commencing a supererogatory prayer at the time of the Adhan.
