Does a divorce take place if a husband says to his wife: "I will ask you questions, and if you lie, you will be divorced," and then the wife answers truthfully, but later remembers that she omitted mentioning something, knowing that the husband intended to provoke her to know the truth?

Most scholars believe that if a husband makes his wife's divorce conditional upon an event, she is divorced when that condition is met, regardless of whether he intended to effect the divorce or merely to threaten or prevent something. Some scholars, like Ibn Taymiyyah, hold that if he did not intend to effect the divorce, but rather intended to threaten or prevent, then no divorce occurs; instead, he must offer expiation for a broken oath (kaffarat yamin).

Accordingly, the prevalent fatwa with us is that if you lied to him about what he asked you, then the divorce has occurred. However, if you did not intentionally lie and merely forgot to inform him, then the preponderant opinion is that no divorce has occurred.
