What are the Shar'i specifications for the Udhiyah that suffice for the sacrificer and his children?

For a sacrifice (udhiyah) to be valid, six conditions must be met:

1. It must be from livestock (camels, cattle, or sheep, including both domesticated and wild varieties). 2. It must have reached the age prescribed by Islamic law (a jadh'ah of sheep, or a thaniyyah of other animals). 3. It must be free from defects that would render it invalid. There are four such defects: a clear defect in vision (one-eyedness), obvious sickness, severe lameness, and emaciation that removes the marrow. Any defect similar to or worse than these is also included. 4. It must be owned by the sacrificer, or the sacrificer must be legally authorized to use it, either by Islamic law or by the owner. 5. No one else should have a right over it. 6. It must be slaughtered within the time prescribed by Islamic law, which is from after the Eid prayer on the Day of Sacrifice until sunset on the last of the Days of Tashreeq.
