Is the rejection by a girl's family to marry her to a young man due to his repeated arrests considered legitimate, or does it contradict the saying of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "If there comes to you one whose religion and character you approve, then marry [your daughter to] him..."? And is her father considered an 'adil (one who prevents marriage without legitimate reason) in this case? And is it permissible for her to appoint the Imam of the mosque as her guardian for the legitimate marriage contract?

If a girl wishes to marry you and you are a suitable match, her family is not permitted to prevent her. The father is considered an 'adil (one who unjustly withholds consent) if he prevents his daughter from marrying a suitable man who desires her, and this nullifies his guardianship over her. Guardianship then transfers to the next closest guardian, and so on. If all of them refuse, guardianship transfers to the Shar'i ruler (the judge), who will marry her off. She is not permitted to appoint anyone other than the judge if a judge is available. However, if no judge is available, she may appoint a just Muslim man to handle her marriage.
