Is it considered an 'adl (forcible prevention of marriage) for parents to refuse to marry their daughter to a man whose religiosity and character she is pleased with – solely because he is not from their city – especially when she has been subjected to violence and forced into two failed engagements, and she desires marriage to escape family problems that lead her to raise her voice at them? How should she act in this situation?

A guardian is considered to be impeding if he refuses to marry off his female ward to a suitable suitor without a valid excuse, such as the suitor not being from the same city. In this case, it is advised to seek help through prayer and supplication to Allah, and to try to enlist the help of some relatives or parents' friends to mediate. It should be known that inheritance is not an excuse to raise one's voice at parents, and there is no obedience to a creature in disobedience to the Creator. Therefore, it is not permissible to obey parents in displaying oneself immodestly or in anything that contravenes Islamic law.
