Is the repentance of a man valid if he repents for fear of scandal or so that Allah may conceal his sin?
The repentance whose virtue and reward have been glorified by the is that which fulfills the following conditions:
1. Sincerity (Al-): That one intends by their repentance the Face of Allah. 2. Abandonment (Al-Iqla'): Ceasing the sin immediately. 3. Remorse (An-Nadam): Feeling regret over committing the sin. 4. Determination (Al-'Azm): Resolving not to return to the sin. 5. Time: That repentance occurs before the soul reaches the throat (the death rattle).
It is stipulated for sincere repentance (Tawbat an-Nasuh) that it encompasses all sins, that the resolve for it is genuine without hesitation, and that it is purely for Allah the Almighty, free from impurities such as seeking praise or fearing blame.
